Orestimba’s Corona and Medina earn TVL boys basketball honorable mention

Two Orestimba High boys basketball players earned an honorable mention in the Trans-Valley All-League teams.

Senior Rudy Corona and sophomore Emiliano Medina were two of 12 players earning the honor following a season where both of them were the Warriors’ leading scorers. Corona led the Warriors at 11.2 points per game, which placed him 11th in scoring within the TVL. Two spots below was his co-star in Medina, who transitioned from junior varsity to varsity midway through the season, averaging nearly 11 points in 10 games with the team.

Head coach Donald Dudley praised both players for what they brought to the table for the team last season despite struggling in league play. He said Corona was a reliable player, especially when the team dealt with player sickness in January.

“[He] showed up when things weren’t going in our favor and just continued to play hard,” Dudley said about Corona. “Never checked his ego out the door, and always just practiced, and that’s what you can ask for.”

When discussing Medina, Dudley said the sophomore made an instant impact the second he joined the varsity team. He added the jump midway into the season was great for him to get a glimpse on what it's like to play the sport at its highest level in high school.

“I think it was great for his development,” he said about Medina. “We struggled a little bit, but he came up, and there was a breath of positivity.”

With nine senior players graduating in May, Medina, if he decides to return, could be the team’s leader and primary scorer going into next season.
