Newman - The Orestimba Warriors (11-16) were unable to stop the momentum of the formidable Ripon Indians (19-2) tonight, falling in straight sets on their home court, 25-7, 25-12, 25-17.
Fresh off a loss to Sonora, the Warriors had hoped for a home-court redemption but were ultimately overwhelmed by the speed and precision of the visiting Indians.
Ripon wasted no time establishing control in the first set. The Indians quickly amassed a massive lead, showcasing an offensive barrage that the Warriors struggled to counter. With Ripon jumping ahead 11-1, it was clear the Warriors had no immediate answers. The Indians finished the first set in a dominating fashion, winning 25-7.
The Warriors returned to the court with stronger resolve in the second set, displaying improved effort and organization. However, the speed and accuracy of the Ripon attack continued to prove too much. While Orestimba managed to keep the score closer for a time, Ripon ultimately pulled away convincingly to take the second game, 25-12.
The Orestimba team showed great heart and fought valiantly in the third set. They managed to keep the score tight for the majority of the game, displaying their ability to compete with an elite opponent. Despite their effort, Ripon's consistency shone through, and they pulled away in the final points to secure the third and final set, 25-17.
The 3-0 sweep by Ripon marks the second consecutive loss for the Orestimba Warriors. They will now look to regroup as they hit the road to face the Hilmar Yellowjackets (16-11) on Tuesday, October 14, at 6 p.m. in Hilmar.
