GUSTINE – The Orestimba High School girls' volleyball team delivered a powerful performance on Tuesday night, sweeping the rival Gustine Reds 3-0 in a non-league match that showcased the Warriors' impressive offensive and defensive powers.
Playing on the road, the Warriors came out firing, quickly establishing control of the match. They took the first two sets decisively, 25-14 and 25-17, leaving little doubt about their dominance. Their aggressive serving and powerful attacks proved too much for the Reds to handle early on.
While Gustine found their rhythm in the third set, putting up a stronger fight, it wasn't enough to turn the tide. The Reds improved performance made for a more competitive set, but Orestimba held on to secure the sweep with a 25-22 victory, clinching the match and securing a significant win against their local rivals.
The Warriors' offensive attack was led by a standout performance from Ellery Gustafson, who, as a key player for Orestimba, delivered multiple kills throughout the match, consistently finding gaps in the Gustine defense.
On the other side of the net, Gustine's Jaclynn Lopez was a force to be reckoned with. She notched a team-high of eight kills, demonstrating her skill and determination to keep her team in the fight.
With this victory, Orestimba improves its overall record to 2-3. The Warriors will look to continue their momentum as they head back home to host Modesto High School on Wednesday, September 10, at 6 p.m.
The loss drops the Reds to 2-4 for the season. Gustine will have a chance to bounce back when they travel to face Mariposa County High School on Wednesday, September 10, with the match also scheduled for 6 p.m.
