NEWMAN – In three days, the Orestimba High softball team played two non-league games.

The Warriors came away with a split in those games. Here is the breakdown of those contests.

Pacific Grove 9, Orestimba 3

Cayla Finley, a junior, went 2-for-4 for Orestimba (2-1), which had five hits in Friday’s road game.

Other Warrior hitters were Karina Gonzalez, Victoria Silva and Hailey Starr, each of whom had a hit each.

Pacific Grove, however, had a great day at the plate with 15 hits.

Orestimba led 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning. That is when Pacific Grove erupted for three runs for a 4-3 lead. The host team added five more in the bottom of the sixth.

Orestimba 14, Buhach Colony 4

In a non-league game in Atwater on Feb. 25, Orestimba erased the Thunder’s 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning, making noise by scoring five runs to take a 5-4 lead.

The Warriors continued to plate more runners in the three of the last four innings, which included five in the top of the sixth.

Orestimba finished with 16 hits in the game. Natalie Corella and Finley each had three hits. Starr and Rae Oliveros had two each, while Warrior teammates Leah Martinez, Gonzalez, Genevieve Armenta, Arryanna Arreguin, Johanna Perez and Ellery Gustafson each had a hit. Arreguin also had two stolen bases.

Finley, along with Oliveros and Corella, drove in 2 RBIs each.

In the circle, Starr went the distance for the Warriors. She struck out four Buhach Colony batters and gave up eight hits. She walked none.

Upcoming games

On Tuesday, Orestimba continued its preseason schedule playing at Patterson.

On Wednesday, the Warriors welcome Big Valley Christian High’s team. This Friday, Orestimba plays at Turlock. Both games are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
