NEWMAN – For a second consecutive week, the Orestimba High football team played in front of the home crowd at Warrior Stadium.
But the visiting Sonora High squad, which won Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI, California Interscholastic Federation NorCal Bowl 4-A and CIF State 4-A titles in 2024, showed the Warriors why it is the team to beat in Friday’s Trans-Valley League game by posting a 56-0 win.
“Sonora is (a) very good football team,” said Orestimba head coach Austin Martins, whose team goes to 0-1 in the TVL and 2-3 overall. “I am proud of the way our guys fought. We will continue to keep working and improving.”
The Wildcats jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter and expanded their lead to 42-0 at halftime.
Sonora (2-0 in the TVL, 6-0) has rolled five of its six opponents this year. Turlock, a member of the Central California Athletic League, stayed within reach during a non-league game on its field on Sept. 12, but Sonora recorded a 35-24 win.
Orestimba beat Freedom of Oakley by a 41-37 score at Warrior Stadium on Sept. 19.
Other TVL scores
In other league games on Friday, Escalon beat Hilmar 27-9 and Ripon Christian knocked off Hughson 21-14.
