For many in Gustine, CaliForm Fitness is more than just a place to work out—it’s a space built on encouragement, connection, and community. Behind the counter is husband-and-wife team Marc and Stephanie Gomes, whose journey into gym ownership began not with a business plan, but with heart.

Before becoming owners, Marc and Stephanie were already part of the gym’s daily rhythm. Marc managed memberships, while Stephanie worked as a personal trainer under the gym’s previous ownership. When former owner Megan Ventura approached them about taking over the business, the opportunity felt both unexpected and meaningful.

“We already loved the gym like it was our second home,” the couple shared. “Being asked to step into ownership was truly a blessing, and we were incredibly grateful to accept. We were excited to start this new journey together with our family.”

Building a business as a married couple has come with its challenges, but also with moments of growth and creativity. One of their favorite parts of ownership has been finding ways to expand upon a space they already believed in.

“We wanted to improve on what Megan had accomplished, because she built something great,” they said. “There’s always room to grow. Adding classes, challenges, and new options keeps the community engaged—and keeps us busy. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s made our bond as a husband and wife even stronger.”

That sense of connection extends beyond the gym walls. Marc and Stephanie describe Gustine as a town rooted in close-knit relationships, many of which they’ve formed through their work at the gym.

“Most of the friendships we’ve made have been through CaliForm Fitness, and many of those people live right here in Gustine,” they said. “Everyone has been incredibly kind and supportive. We love this community and the people who make it what it is.”

One of their proudest milestones came after completing renovations to the back portion of the building—approximately 1,200 square feet now dedicated to group classes.

“Finishing that space was a huge accomplishment,” they shared. “It took a lot of hard work, but seeing it completed and being used by the community made it all worth it.”

The couple is quick to credit their members for the gym’s continued success. Every improvement, they say, is shaped by community feedback and engagement.

“Without our members, we wouldn’t exist as a gym,” they said. “We invest back into the space based on what the community wants and what we believe it needs.”

As a smaller, locally owned gym, Marc and Stephanie see personal connection as their greatest strength.

“We build this gym together with our members,” they said. “We’re open to hearing what people want and need, and they play a huge role in how the gym transforms. Everyone is treated equally, and we truly appreciate the kind words and reviews we’ve received.”

Looking ahead, the Gomes family is focused on steady growth and long-term impact.

“We want to do amazing things with this gym,” they said. “We’re just getting started. As our membership grows over the years, the gym will grow right along with it.”
