The cities of Newman and Gustine are gearing up for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, with a full slate of family-friendly activities designed to strengthen community ties and celebrate public safety partnerships.
National Night Out, first launched in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, is a nationwide initiative that encourages residents to gather outdoors, meet their neighbors, and build relationships with local law enforcement. Held annually on the first Tuesday in August, the event now reaches millions of people across thousands of communities.
In Newman, festivities will kick off at 7 p.m. at Sherman Park at 330 Cinnamon Teal Way with free food, games, music, and giveaways. The Newman Police Department, Fire Department, and Westside Ambulance will be on hand for safety demonstrations and community engagement, along with a chance to meet K9 Gizmo. Families can enjoy bounce houses, face painting, and a dunk a chief tank, along with booths hosted by local organizations.
Police vs. Fire games will feature dodgeball and tug-of-war. The night concludes with a movie screening of Dogman starting at dusk.
In Gustine, National Night Out on Aug. 5, will be paired with a Back to School Night beginning at 5 p.m. on 3rd Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets. The event includes free hot dog meals for kids, a school supply giveaway, and booths hosted by community organizations. At 7 p.m., families are invited to the Gustine Aquatics Center for a movie night featuring Yes Day.
Both cities are encouraging local businesses and nonprofits to participate by hosting booths or donating supplies. Gustine organizers are accepting registrations at www.cityofgustine.com or by phone at (209) 854-9411.
With games, giveaways, and movie screenings, Newman and Gustine’s National Night Out events promise to bring neighbors together in celebration of safety, community, and summer fun.
