Registration for Newman Recreation Spring Co‑ed Volleyball League Open

The open registration for the Newman spring co‑ed volleyball league starts Feb. 5.

The league is a six‑week program played on Tuesday and/or Thursday nights. Each league is limited to 12 teams, and all participants must be at least 18 and out of high school.

The cost is $5 per person, with an additional $5 fee for players who live outside the Newman school district.

Gustine Library February Events

The Gustine Branch Library has a full slate of February activities for all ages. The month begins on Feb. 5 with the adult book club meeting at 10 a.m., followed by Kid’s Craft Time for ages 6 to 11 at 3 p.m. A paper heart craft for all ages is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Feb. 10. Teens ages 12 to 18 can take part in a heart‑themed canvas craft at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 17. Kids Puzzle Time for ages 6 to 11 will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 19, and adults and teens ages 12 and older can join Puzzle Time at 4 p.m. on Feb. 24. Adult coloring for those 19 and older is set for 4 p.m. on Feb. 26.

Every Saturday in February — except Feb. 14 — the library will host Tiny Tales Story Time at 10:30 a.m. and Family Lego Fun Time at 1 p.m. The library will be closed Feb. 12, 14 and 16 for federal holidays.

Steak & Shrimp Dinner Dance Set for March 7

The Newman F.D.E.S. will host its annual Steak & Shrimp Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 7, at the F.D.E.S. Hall on R Street in Newman. The evening will include a presentation of queens, takeout dinners from 4:30 to 6 p.m., cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner from 7 to 9 p.m., and dancing from 9 p.m. to midnight with music by Chico Avila.

Newman Historical Society Plans Valentine’s Salad Luncheon

The Newman Historical Society will hold its annual Valentine’s Day Salad Luncheon on Feb. 13 at the Louie J. Newman Memorial Building from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fundraiser supports the Newman Museum and its preservation work.

Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance. They are available by calling Glennis Kidder at 209‑862‑2725, Mary Vaz Moore at 209‑862‑3822 or Debbie Allan at 209‑862‑3571, or by visiting the museum during open hours.

The luncheon will feature a door prize and opportunity drawings. The museum, housed in the historic 1920 Carnegie Library building, is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission is free.

Newman Library announces February programs

The Newman Library has several activities planned for the second half of February.

A Teen Nintendo Switch Party will be held Feb. 10 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Valentine’s Day card‑making is scheduled for Feb. 12 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Story Time continues Feb. 11, 18 and 25 from 10 to 10:30 a.m., followed by Wee Move and Play from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Lego Day returns Feb. 19 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Trading Card Game Night meets Feb. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m., and Dungeons & Dragons for teens will be offered Feb. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The library will be closed Feb. 16 in observance of Presidents Day.

OLM Neon Bingo Fundraiser

Our Lady of Miracles School will host its first “Neon 80s Bingo Rave Night” on Feb. 28, blending bingo, music and an 80s‑themed party atmosphere as part of an adults‑only fundraiser.

The event runs from 7 to 11 p.m. at GPS Hall, 500 3rd Ave., and will feature bingo rounds, raffles, dancing, hors d’oeuvres and a hosted bar. DJ Dan will provide music throughout the night.

Organizer Maria Pacheco said the goal is to offer a fresh, high‑energy alternative to traditional school fundraisers while supporting OLM programs. Tickets are $60 and available through school families and Parent Club supporters.

Paint & Sip night coming to Gustine on Feb. 27

The City of Gustine Recreation Department and the Gustine Chamber of Commerce are inviting residents to a Paint & Sip event on Feb. 27 at the Al Goman Center.

The session begins at 6 p.m. and will be led by instructor Kelly Gregg. Organizers say no experience is required, making it a relaxed evening for both seasoned artists and beginners.

Newman Fall Festival committee to meet Feb. 24, seeks volunteers

The Newman Fall Festival committee will hold its first meeting of the year on Feb. 24 as organizers begin planning the 2026 edition of the city’s largest annual community celebration and look to fill key leadership roles.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room behind the Newman Police Department. Executive Board elections will be held for chairman, co–vice chairman and treasurer, and chairpersons will be assigned for major festival events.

Longtime chairwoman Christine Eddington said she will not seek another term but will continue leading the Miss Newman Pageant. She encouraged residents interested in helping plan the Labor Day weekend festival to attend.

The committee is seeking volunteers to oversee the parade, booths, entertainment, sponsorships and the Evening Under the Stars fundraiser. Last year’s call for help drew strong community support after organizers warned the festival could be paused without additional leadership.

Gustine Youth Football & Cheer opens 2026 registration

Registration for the 2026 Gustine Redskins Youth Football & Cheer season will take place Feb. 10, 17 and 19 at the Gustine Pizza Factory from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

A $100 non‑refundable registration fee is due at sign‑up. Families who register before March 31 will receive a $25 early‑bird discount, and those who pay their full balance at registration will receive a $30 home‑game concession credit.

Gustine tennis matches to close Harry Schmidt Park courts on select dates

The Harry Schmidt Park tennis courts will be closed on several dates in March and April while the Gustine High School Tennis Club hosts home matches, the city announced.

The courts will be reserved from 3 to 8 p.m. on March 4, March 5, March 9, March 19 and April 2 under the shared‑use agreement between the City of Gustine and the Gustine Unified School District.

Outside of those dates, the Linden Avenue courts remain first‑come, first‑served with a 1.5‑hour time limit. Clubs or organizations seeking exclusive use must complete required contract paperwork and pay applicable fees.

Gustine Lions Club seeking vendors for annual Easter Egg Hunt

The Gustine Lions Club and Miss Gustine Court are seeking food and merchandise vendors for the annual Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for April 4 at the Schmidt Park baseball fields.

Vendor booths will operate from 9:30 a.m. to noon, with the egg hunt beginning at 10 a.m. sharp. The vendor fee is $50, which includes the required business license.

The event will feature eggs, prizes and an appearance by the Easter Bunny.
