Newman Police

The Newman Police Department received 63 calls for service and reported 127 officer-initiated calls for a total of 190 incidents from March 15 to March 21. 

The department opened 18 cases and made 11 arrests. There were 18 traffic citations issued, four criminal citations, 16 parking citations and one animal citation. One vehicle was towed.

Vandalism

On March 21, the police department took a report of a vandalism in the 300 block of Tower Way. There was a report of a broken patio glass door. A small puncture mark and a “fish eye” blow out in one of the panes of glass was found. There was similar damage to an adjacent porch light glass lens. The damage was consistent with a pellet or BB gun. The damage was estimated at $800.

Auto burglary

On March 21, the police department took a report of an auto burglary in the 2100 block of Hot Springs. The reporting party said a work truck had been broken into overnight and construction equipment valued at $1,700 was stolen.

Arrests

Anthony Gonzalez, 25, of Newman was arrested on March 15 for warrants.

A 14-year-old Newman boy was arrested on March 18 for possession of a weapon at school.

Rogelio Brito Abarca, 30, of Merced was arrested on March 18 for driving on a suspended license.

Nathan Powell, 40, was arrested on March 18 for public nuisance and a warrant.

Eduardo Parra, 32, of Newman was arrested on March 19 for a warrant.

Jose Esparza, 43, of Newman was arrested on March 19 for a warrant.

Alberto Ayala, 34, of Ceres was arrested on March 19 for driving on a suspended license.

Oscar Marquez, 56, of Newman was arrested on March 21 for a warrant.

Arrests

Jesus Amescua Lopez, 60, was arrested at 6:37 p.m. on March 15 in the 1200 block of Canterbury Court for DUI and DUI of .08 or more.

Ezequiel Sosa Serna, 25, was arrested at 8:04 p.m. on March 16 in the area of 5th Street and 5th Avenue for DUI, DUI of .08 or more and driving without a license.

Toni Ann Zambrano, 52, was arrested at 9:41 p.m. on March 16 in the area of Highway 140 and Knibes Road for a warrant.

Abner Abdiel Tadeo Ortiz, 23, was arrested at 2:30 a.m. on March 17 in the area of Highway 33 and Gun Club Road for DUI and DUI of .08 or more.

Alejandro Osorneo Ramirez, 39, was arrested at 10:51 p.m. on March 21 in the area of Highway 33 and Bambauer Road for DUI and DUI of .08 or more.
