Gustine High School paves the way for future career opportunities. On Feb. 10, five Gustine High School students traveled to Visalia for the 2024 Central Section Leadership Conference.

Gustine High School students placed fifth in Spreadsheet Applications, seventh in Impromptu Speaking, and ninth in Business Management.

FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. The Gustine High FBLA is led by Gustine Math teacher, Alan Ward. The primary mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. FBLA provides a platform for students to develop essential skills such as leadership, communication, teamwork, and networking, all of which are crucial for success in the business world.

It was a day of learning and applying skills. The event began around 8:30 a.m., opening with socializing and speeches. Then around 10 a.m., students dove into online testing sessions that ranged from Accounting, Advertising, Business Communication, International Business and much more. Ending their day with lunch, professional workshops, and official awards.

“We want to develop students to go on and do great things,” said Gustine High School Principal Adam Cano.

Gustine High School has been developing program pathways for students. Planting seeds for students, providing them with technological advantages, and developing a pathway for success after graduating. Gustine, over time, has invested into in-house graphic design and printing, Region Occupational programs, and extended education programs with UC Merced, Modesto Junior College and University of Pacific.

“We want to sit back, then ask ourselves, ‘are we doing the best we can for the students?’” said Cano.

FLBA is a great resource. It’s important to the local community and economy of Gustine and Newman. Most of these will find their best interest participate in the local economy. And with collegiate resources, will go on to study business and communication related topics, in college. Cano has the students’ future in mind.

“We want to provide every student with the opportunity to attend college,” said Cano.
