Small animal skills tested for 4-H’ers

Newman 4-H members recently participated in Small Animal Skills at the County Ag. Center on Cornucopia Way in Modesto. The event was facilitated and organized by the Stanislaus County Small Animal Committee and hosted 4-H and FFA members from Stanislaus and Merced County.

Newman 4-H members recently participated in Small Animal Skills at the County Ag. Center on Cornucopia Way in Modesto.  The event was facilitated and organized by the Stanislaus County Small Animal Committee and hosted 4-H and FFA members from Stanislaus and Merced County.

Olivia Casey and Emily Drumonde served as the facilitators for the Primary rabbit sessions. There session taught general care, feeding and housing, as well as basic showmanship.

Primary members Julian Leon and Brian Casey participated in the educational sessions for cavies, while Huberto Lopez participated in the poultry sessions.

In the cavy events, Olivia Casey placed 1st in senior showmanship and the cavy identification contest.  Addison Martins placed 4th in both senior showmanship and Identification.  Michelle Ebert placed 5th in cavy identification.

In the rabbit events, Olivia Casey placed 1st in the rabbit judging competition, 4th in senior showmanship and 1st in the rabbit knowledge testing.  Michelle Ebert placed 2nd in the rabbit knowledge testing.  Emily Drumonde placed 1st in intermediate rabbit showmanship and 5th in rabbit knowledge testing.
