GUSTINE — The Gustine Reds (1‑16) faced a steep challenge Thursday night against the Delhi Hawks (13‑11), and while they showed flashes of resilience early, a dominant second quarter by Delhi turned the game into a 67‑34 loss for the Reds.
Gustine opened with determination, keeping the game competitive through the first several minutes. But the momentum shifted sharply in the second period as the Hawks found their rhythm, stringing together a massive scoring run that the Reds couldn’t slow. Delhi’s offense clicked from all angles, and by halftime the Hawks had built a commanding 52‑15 lead.
To their credit, the Reds refused to fold. Gustine outscored Delhi in the final two quarters, putting up 19 points to the Hawks’ 15. The improved ball movement and shot selection showed the grit the Reds have leaned on all season, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome. Delhi’s defensive pressure throughout the night kept Gustine from mounting any real comeback threat.
The Reds now turn their attention to the final stretch of the season. They travel to Le Grand on Wednesday, Feb. 11, for a 6 p.m. matchup against the Bulldogs. Gustine then returns home Friday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. to face Waterford in their season finale, where the program will honor its graduating seniors before tipoff.
