Reds girls’ soccer is fighting for a SAL league playoff run. The Reds are in a position to gain leverage after winning against SAL league opponent Waterford Wildcats, 8-0, on Thursday. But the Reds did unfortunately tie against Denair on Monday, 2-2.

“Denair, it was a good game at the beginning. We pretty much had a different position than we did this time and it was looking pretty good. Our defense made a little mistake, just a little mistake, that happens,” said head coach Jose Gallardo.

A win against the Waterford Wildcats was important. The Reds are ranked third place in the SAL league. Giving them a last effort stride in proceeding to playoffs. The Reds need their next win against Delhi or the season could be over.

“I think we have a chance to be able to go to the playoffs. We need to try and see what we can do with that,” said Gallardo.

Leading scorers against the Wildcats, Christina Navarro (11) and Shandel Aguilera (18), scored 4 apiece. Defensively, the Warriors were able to keep the Wildcats scoreless the entire game.

This is Gallardo’s first season coaching the Reds girls’ soccer. He has hyped the team to not let up and make it past their remaining Delhi Hawk opponent.

“Like I told them at the beginning, we’re going to take it a game at a time. Just because we beat them already, don’t give them confidence because you don’t know. These teams are actual teams. They’re hungry to go ahead and try and beat us,” Gallardo said.”

This week, Delhi Hawks will travel to Gustine on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Hawks rank fifth in the SAL league, but barely walked away with a loss against first ranked Orestimba. It’s a battle for rankings.
