Rubio, a Gustine High School alum, founded his business with a clear mission: to create fashionable, well-fitting designs for customers of all sizes.

“The clothing industry often overlooks larger sizes when it comes to fashion-forward options,” Rubio shared. “People shouldn’t have to choose between plain T-shirts or designs that don’t reflect their personality. My goal is to make clothing that everyone feels confident and comfortable wearing—regardless of size.”

Rubio Threads has already built a loyal customer base in the Los Banos and Merced areas, thanks to James’ unique designs and dedication to customer satisfaction. His willingness to take on individual orders, no matter how big or small, has earned him praise from locals. “I love seeing people happy with the work I create—it’s the best part of the process,” Rubio said.

Now, James is working toward taking the next step in his entrepreneurial journey by bringing his online success to a physical storefront. While nothing is set in stone, he hopes Newman will be the home for his first retail location. Despite the friendly rivalry between Newman and his hometown of Gustine, Rubio jokes that he plans to make up for “taking the Chief” during Gustine’s football victory in 2017 by giving back to Newman’s youth. “I want my business to be more than just a store,” he explained. “I want to support the community and create a place where people feel inspired and included.”
