SNELLING — Four people were rescued from the Merced River on Tuesday evening after their raft became stuck near Henderson Park, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a report of individuals stranded in the water and found two adults and two juveniles — including one who is partially paralyzed — trapped after their raft became lodged on an object in the river. Deputies reached the group and safely removed them from the water.
The Sheriff’s Office helicopter, Sable 5, landed next to the river, and deputies loaded the individuals aboard. They were flown back to Henderson Park, where they received medical aid. No injuries were reported.
Sheriff’s officials said the incident highlights how quickly river conditions can change and become dangerous.
