A Los Banos coach and substitute teacher has been arrested and charged in Missouri after investigators say he sent inappropriate communications to multiple juveniles in Callaway County.
The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said it began investigating on March 13 after receiving a report that a 13‑year‑old had been receiving unwanted messages from an adult male. Deputies later identified the suspect as Matthew Sean Bowman, 25, of California.
During the investigation, deputies determined Bowman had been communicating with several juveniles in the county. They also learned he was employed as a coach and substitute teacher with the Los Banos Unified School District in California.
Callaway County investigators contacted the Los Banos Police Department for assistance in locating Bowman. He was found in Los Banos on April 13 and taken into custody on a no‑bond warrant issued by the Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Bowman is awaiting extradition to Missouri, where he faces the following charges: Two counts of enticement of a child, involving an adult 21 or older and a child under 15; and two counts of age misrepresentation with intent to solicit a minor for sexual misconduct through electronic communication
The sheriff’s office said it will continue working with partner agencies “to hold offenders accountable and protect victims of crimes in our community.”
All charges are allegations, and Bowman is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
