A man was arrested last week after officers responded to a collision at a residence and found the driver heavily intoxicated, according to the Newman Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Canyon View Drive for a report that a vehicle had struck another in a driveway. When officers arrived, they were directed inside, where Adrian Lujan was being evaluated by medical personnel.

Witnesses identified Lujan as the driver, though police said he initially denied both drinking and driving. Officers reported that Lujan showed clear signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, watery eyes, an unsteady gait and a strong odor of alcohol.

Lujan provided a breath sample and registered a 0.49% blood‑alcohol concentration, police said. Witness photos and video footage from the residence also showed Lujan behind the wheel.

He was booked without incident.
