MODESTO — The deadline for most candidates to file for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election has passed, but filing will continue through Aug. 12 in races where an incumbent did not seek re‑election, the Stanislaus County Registrar of Voters announced Friday.

County Clerk‑Recorder and Registrar of Voters Donna Linder said the regular filing period closed at 5 p.m. Aug. 7. Under state law, non‑incumbents receive an additional five days to file in contests where an incumbent declined to run. Once the extension period ends, the county will finalize the candidate list for the November ballot.

Candidates can file nomination papers at the Registrar of Voters Office at 1021 I St. in Modesto. Basic qualifications include being a registered voter in Stanislaus County and living in the district they seek to represent. Additional requirements may apply.

Several school district and special district seats are included in the extended filing period, such as Chatom Union School District Area 1, Turlock Unified School District Area 2, Crows Landing Community Services District, and multiple divisions within the West Stanislaus Irrigation District. Some districts shared with other counties remain pending verification.

A full list of races with extended filing is available at stanvote.com under “Officials / Candidates.” Voters must be U.S. citizens, California residents, at least 18 years old on Election Day and not currently in prison to participate in the statewide general election.
