MERCED — The Merced County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday proclaimed June 2026 as “All Dads Matter Month,” highlighting the role of fathers and father figures in strengthening families and improving outcomes for children.
The proclamation, requested by the county’s Human Services Agency, underscores research showing that children with engaged, supportive fathers experience better social, educational and health outcomes than those without an involved father. HSA Director John Ceccoli told the board that for decades, fatherhood was overlooked in parenting research and public policy, despite its measurable impact on child well‑being.
The proclamation recognizes fathers in all forms — including biological, foster, adoptive, stepfathers and grandfathers — and emphasizes the importance of responsible fatherhood in building healthy communities. It also notes the challenges of raising children and describes fatherhood as one of the most meaningful roles a man can hold.
According to the county, children raised in father‑absent homes face significantly higher risks of poverty, behavioral issues, infant mortality, incarceration, teen pregnancy, abuse, substance abuse, obesity and lower educational attainment.
The board’s action also supports the upcoming “Celebration of Fatherhood,” scheduled for June 20 at Applegate Park in Merced. The event, organized by All Dads Matter, aims to promote positive father involvement and provide resources to families.
“All Dads Matter is dedicated to supporting fathers and families in our community,” the proclamation reads, noting the organization’s mission to ensure every child has a competent and capable father from birth.
With Tuesday’s vote, supervisors formally declared June 2026 as “All Dads Matter Month” in Merced County.
