GUSTINE — The gridiron is calling as the 2026 Gustine High School flag football season gets underway, backed by a packed schedule, a demanding summer program and a seasoned coaching duo ready to lead the Reds into a high‑energy fall campaign.
The team spent the summer building its foundation with three to four intensive practices per week, pausing only for the CIF‑mandated dead period. That off‑season work laid the groundwork for a fast‑paced slate ahead.
This year’s schedule features 15 regular‑season games and two major tournaments, with weeks that could include up to three contests. Coaches plan to use non‑game days strictly for targeted practice and game‑plan adjustments to keep players sharp through the long stretch.
The program is led by Head Coach Adie Ethridge, who steps into her first year as Gustine’s varsity flag football coach after years of head and assistant coaching across youth organizations. Assistant Head Coach Chris Etheridge adds further experience, bringing a background in youth and high school tackle football.
“Coach Chris and I are very excited for the upcoming season,” Ethridge said. “We have a great group of young ladies that we have been working with during the off‑season and look forward to coaching them during the season.”
The Reds open at home against Hilmar in a non‑league matchup before heading into the OHS Tournament on Saturday, giving the team an early test ahead of league play.
Gustine’s next flag football game is scheduled for Aug. 31 at River Island, marking the team’s first road contest of the season.
