GUSTINE — Wearing pink uniforms to mark the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Gustine Reds bounced back from Tuesday’s loss to Stone Ridge Christian with a decisive 3–0 sweep over Le Grand on Thursday night, winning 25‑18, 25‑17, 25‑18.

Gustine opened the first set with an 11–4 lead before a mid‑set push from Le Grand tightened the gap. A momentum‑shifting block from Martha Torres put the Reds back in control, and they closed out the set 25‑18. Between sets, fans watched an exhibition match featuring the Gustine Middle School Braves and Our Lady of Miracles Lancers, offering a look at the program’s future talent.

Le Grand struck first in the second set, building a 7–4 advantage before Gustine rallied to tie it at 7–7 behind a hard kill from Adamaris Hernandez. A strong service run pushed the Reds ahead 12–9, and Hernandez later sealed the set with a kill for the 25‑17 win.

The Bulldogs again opened strong in the third set, taking a 7–5 lead before Gustine battled back to tie it at 10–10. Le Grand briefly moved ahead 16–15, but Hernandez answered with a corner shot to tie the match and swing momentum back to the Reds. Gustine held the lead from there, with Sofia Soto delivering the final point in a 25‑18 finish.

Coach Solomona Lupa said the win was a meaningful step for his team. “They have worked so hard that they earned this victory. This was a much‑needed win to keep us in the race for a playoff berth,” he said.

The Reds next face longtime rival Orestimba in a non‑league matchup before traveling to Mariposa County to take on the Grizzlies.
