The Orestimba Warriors clinched a victory on Monday as they hosted the Gustine Reds. 9-0, was the end score, in both singles and doubles, with the Warriors coming out on top. 

With seasoned players and a solid strategy, the Warriors showed their tested strength on the court, securing another win for their undefeated streak.

“The season is going great, we’re undefeated,” Orestimba head coach Dan Delver remarked. “I’ve got 13 seniors on my team, so this is like the strongest team you can actually get because all of my starters are seniors, and they’ve got four years of experience,” said Delver, who has a decade of experience leading the Warriors. 

Looking ahead to future challenges, Delver highlighted the upcoming match against Ripon Christian as an obstacle for them to overcome. And a true test for the team. 

“We’ve shared the Championship with them for two years and beating each other once and losing to each other once,” Delver explained. “Our big competition coming up next week when we play against Ripon Christian because they’re the ones that have been our outstanding competition in the past.” 

The Reds side had an upside. LC Garrett, in his second year coaching the Gustine Reds and with three years under Modesto City Schools, commented on the progress of this current season.

“My players are very enthusiastic, they’re go-getters, and they’re very athletic,” Garrett said. “Their confidence is not there yet, but after every game we play, I see their confidence building.”

Garrett outlined his goals for the team, focusing not only on skill development but also on boosting confidence among his players. 

“So, my goal for my team in general is to not only improve their skills but also to improve their confidence,” Garrett said. “Another goal is also to build our accomplishments with winning the tournament, but then also making it to sectionals if that’s what happens.”

Reds tennis player, Oscar Vergara Vázquez, aspires for overall team improvement. 

“I want my friends to improve and get better, so next year, they want to play tennis again,” Vázquez said. “I want to win some games, but I also I do it for them, to be an inspiration for them.”

Orestimba’s, Drew Felber, is now in his third sport of the school year. Beginning with football, then basketball and now tennis. He is still in search for a title event though past seasons have been a heartbreak.

“The goal this season, for sure goal number one is definitely to get outright league championship,” Felber stated. “And then goal number two would be to make it as far in playoffs as possible. It would be nice to make it to the semi or championship. So that would be fun going back to finish what you started.”
