SONORA - On Wednesday, the Orestimba High School cross-country teams competed at the Trans-Valley League Meet No. 2 at Wildcat Ranch.
The Warrior girls took 3rd place as a team at the league meet with 65 points. Ripon ran to a second-place finish with 63 and Hughson won at 40.
Jade Carmona, a sophomore, was Orestimba’s top finisher in the 3.1 miles race with a time of 22 minutes, 6.9 seconds for 5th place. Samantha De La Cruz, a senior who has produced strong finishes in recent years, took 6th place at 22:52.8.
Other Warrior harriers who finished in the top 20 at the race were Madalynn Hernandez, who had an 11th place finish at 24:04.8 and Kiera Patterson at 17th place with a time of 24:28.5.
“Very good team effort,” said Orestimba head coach Scott Felber. “Christine Rodriguez (freshman, 32nd place at 27:33.1) also chipped in by moving up a few spots (from previous meets this season).”
Boys
The Orestimba boys had a 6th place finish as a team with 137 points. Sonora won this division with 26 points.
Joseph Garcia, a senior, was clocked at an even 18:38 for a 10th place finish for the Warrior boys. Emmanuel Garabito had a 20th place finish at an even 20 minutes.
“Two of our top three boys runners were out, so we had a tough time as (a) team,” said Felber. “But the boys ran well and we're getting better.”
Upcoming meet
Both Warrior teams are scheduled to compete at the Wildcat Forward Motion Invitational at Dougherty High School on Saturday, Oct. 10.
