The Orestimba Warriors varsity baseball team took a tough loss with a final score of 14-4, against the Hilmar Yellowjackets on Friday.
Their record for the season is now 0-3.
The Warriors had opportunity runaway and struggled with finding the strike zone in the fifth inning. It’s still early in the season, but
Head Coach Harold Peeples has a positive outlook on this season.
“Offensively, I thought that we have that’s probably the best we’ve looked, and I feel like we would have pressured them again in that back inning. Just tough. When you have two guys that struggle finding the zone at the end of the game,” said head coach Peeples.
Prior to the 5th inning, it was a fair match. After ending the 4th, a reasonable 4-4 score seemed like the Warriors needed to wrap-up the home game in the 5th and senior pitcher Alex Milan (8) would send the Yellowjackets packing home. Hilmar unexpectedly had bases loaded, rotating their way into a slow, but distant lead and bringing home Yellowjackets with any opportunity available.
The Warriors would struggle to remove Hilmar off-bat and the Yellowjackets would score 10 runs in the 5th. Offensively, coach was satisfied with Juan Esquivez (5) performance at bat, going 3-3 at the plate. The Warriors would see runs from Nate Perez (7), Gerardo Vidarvi (2), Alex Milan (8), and Jaden Soto (21
“I have a really positive outlook on this season. I have my complete faith and trust. We have some absolute ballers on this team. We just got to work out some kinks,” said coach Peeples.
Coach Peeples remains optimistic about the season, expressing complete faith in his team and acknowledging the need to iron out some issues. Last season, the Warriors posted an 11-8 overall record, finishing 4th in the league at 9-5. Peeples aims to improve their standing in the Southern Athletic League this season and run for a title.
“We want to compete for a league title. We want to make the playoffs and see what we can do in the playoffs,” Peeples affirmed.
Looking ahead, the Warriors have an upcoming matchup against San Joaquin Athletic Association’s Franklin High School, at Franklin High, at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Followed by a home game against Western Athletic Conference’s Pacheco Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
