Orestimba softball pick up wins

TRACY – Taking a break from Trans-Valley League action last week, the Orestimba High softball team found success at the Tracy Classic.

Orestimba (14-7 overall, 3-3 in the TVL) won three of four games in two days. Here is the breakdown of those games.

Orestimba 7, Ceres 2

In the final game of the classic on Saturday, the Warriors produced nine hits and held the Bulldogs to only three.

Orestimba scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, then three more in the second for a 4-0 lead. After Ceres plated two runs in the third for a 4-2 score, the Warriors ended the game with three more in the fifth inning for the final score.

Natalie Corella and Rae Oliveros, along with Ellery Gustafson, each had two hits for the Warriors.

In the circle, Gustafson went five innings, giving up three hits, striking out three and walking only one.

Orestimba 9, Bear Creek 4

The Warriors only had seven hits in this game on Saturday, while the Bruins had 11. But Bear Creek, out of Stockton, was guilty of four errors.

Orestimba jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and led the entire game. The Warriors had a 9-2 score entering the sixth inning.

Cayla Finley had three RBIs for the Warriors and Aryanna Arreguin had three hits and two RBIs. Hailey Starr produced two hits in the game. Salece Machado stole three bases.

Starr pitched the entire game for Orestimba, striking out two and walking one.

Orestimba 7, Central Valley 3

This was the second time in less than a month Orestimba and Central Valley, out of Ceres, met on the diamond, on Friday. The Warriors won the first meeting 5-2 on their own field on March 23.

Orestimba had 11 hits in its second win over the Hawks, who only had three.

Corella had a big day at the plate for the Warriors, going 4-for-4. Finley and Starr each had two hits, and Machado clubbed a triple.

Gustafson struck out three and walked one Hawk batter.

Davis 9, Orestimba 0

In the first game of the classic on Friday, Davis, out of Yolo County, scored in four of the five innings for the win.

The Warriors only had one hit, off the bat from Victoria Silva. The Blue Devils had 13 hits.

Upcoming games

On Tuesday, the Warriors resumed league play at Ripon High.

On Thursday, Orestimba hits the road again, this time at Hughson High for a 4 p.m. game.

The Warriors play at Ripon Christian High on Tuesday, April 21 that also has a 4 p.m. start time.
