GUSTINE — The City of Gustine Recreation Department is calling on residents to roll up their sleeves for an Earth Day community beautification event on Wednesday, April 22, from 3 to 6 p.m. The afternoon will focus on cleanup, planting and neighborhood pride.

Volunteers will gather at Henry Miller Park, across from the Police Department, before dispersing to projects throughout the city. Planned activities include park and downtown cleanup, memorial tree planting, and community tree and flower planting. Several projects will be supported by city staff.

Recreation Coordinator Tiffany Vitorino said the event is designed to bring residents together in a meaningful way.

“Earth Day is such a special opportunity for our community to come together, get our hands dirty in the best way, and take pride in making Gustine even more beautiful,” Vitorino said. She added that every contribution matters. “Whether someone is planting a tree, helping clean up a park, or simply showing up to support the effort, every person plays a part in building a stronger and greener community.”

Vitorino said she hopes to see families, organizations and neighbors from across town participate.

“Events like this remind us how much can be accomplished when Gustine works together,” she said.

The event also highlights the city’s Tree Tribute Program, which allows residents to donate a tree in honor or memory of someone special. Tribute trees purchased by April 14 will be included in the Earth Day planting. The program offers planting locations in city parks, along side streets and in the downtown area, giving families a lasting way to commemorate loved ones or celebrate milestones.

Gustine Traveling Library Vice President Jose Flores said he is encouraged by the community spirit behind the event.

“It is exciting to see families from across town come together for something so positive and meaningful, especially when it helps make our community more beautiful for everyone,” Flores said. He added that projects like this strengthen local pride and create something future generations can appreciate. “When families, volunteers and organizations work side by side, it shows the heart of Gustine and reminds us how much we can do together to care for the place we all call home.”

City officials encourage volunteers to complete the required waiver on the City of Gustine website. Once registered, volunteers may participate in city projects throughout the year. Those unable to attend may also contribute through donations.

More information on volunteer registration, donations and the Tree Tribute Program is available on the city’s website.

With Earth Day as its inspiration, the April 22 event offers residents a chance to serve their community, support local beautification efforts and help create a greener future for Gustine.
