GUSTINE — Youth groups, families, city staff and local organizations joined together for a communitywide Earth Day planting event that added new trees, bushes and flowers across several public spaces in town.
The project, organized by the Gustine Traveling Library and the City of Gustine Recreation Department, focused on Henry Miller Park, Lions Park, Main Street and the Gustine Police Station. Volunteers spent the afternoon preparing planting areas, moving soil and greenery, and cleaning up once the work was done. More than 10 trees were planted, along with additional landscaping meant to brighten areas used daily by residents and visitors.
Youth participation was a major part of the effort, with members of the Gustine Redskins Youth Football Team and cheer squad, the Gustine Police Department Explorers, Gustine High FFA and Gustine Westside 4‑H all taking part. Public Works staff assisted by preparing sites and supporting volunteers throughout the day.
Recreation Coordinator Tiffany Vitorino said the event showcased the community’s pride and teamwork. “Seeing our youth, families, city staff and local organizations all working side by side shows how much pride people have in Gustine,” she said.
Gustine Traveling Library Vice President Jose Flores said the day gave young volunteers a chance to see the impact of their service. He said projects like this help youth understand how their work contributes to the community’s future.
Organizers thanked all volunteers and partners who helped make the event possible. By the end of the afternoon, new landscaping had been added across key areas of town, leaving a visible reminder of community spirit and shared stewardship.
