MERCED COUNTY — Families heading to the Merced County Spring Fair this year will see a major change at the gate: children 12 and under will be admitted free, thanks to a new partnership between Merced County and Valley Children’s Healthcare.

Valley Children’s Chief Community Impact Officer Lynne Ashbeck said the collaboration is rooted in a shared goal of supporting families and expanding access to community events. “Valley Children’s is honored to collaborate with Merced County to expand access to the Fair, giving local families more opportunities to come together, celebrate Merced County and enjoy healthy outdoor activities,” Ashbeck said.

County officials said the sponsorship will make the fair more accessible for families across the region. Supervisor Scott Silveira, who represents the district that includes the fairgrounds, called the partnership an example of what can happen when organizations work toward a common purpose. He said free admission for children will help more families experience the fair and “create lasting memories.”

County Executive Officer Mark Hendrickson said the support from Valley Children’s helps ensure the fair remains a welcoming, family‑friendly event. Fair Manager Cinnamon Howell said the free admission will allow more children to enjoy rides, exhibits and hands‑on activities, adding that the goal is to “put smiles on more kids’ faces.”

The Merced County Spring Fair, scheduled for April 29 through May 3, remains one of the county’s signature annual events. This year’s theme, “Roots, Rides & Ribbons,” highlights the region’s agricultural heritage and community spirit. The fair will feature entertainment, food vendors, livestock exhibits, youth activities and other attractions.
