Following its loss to Ripon Christian earlier in the week, the Orestimba High tennis team fell on the road against Ripon High, 5-4, on Friday.

The Warriors fell to 6-5 overall and fourth in the Trans-Valley League standings. The Indians are now third in the league standings with a half-game lead.

Considering both of Orestimba’s losses were against the top three teams in TVL, head coach Nolan Osborn said his team were outplayed, plain and simple. “We still have a chance, but overall, it was a tough week.”

Throughout Friday’s matchup, the Warriors had a 4-2 lead after sweeping the boys singles, splitting the girls singles and boys doubles matches. However, things took a turn for the worse for Orestimba.

Ripon later swept both of its girls doubles matchups, including a three-set match, to tie the match and setting up a decisive mixed doubles match.

Indians’ Santiago Hernandez and Emiley Wang surged past the Warriors’ Izyk Ramirez and Mia Murillo to win Friday’s contest in a two-set match, 6-0, 6-1.

Orestimba’s Colton Reeves began Friday’s matchup in the boys singles with a two-set win against Matthew Tharakan, 7-5, 6-2. Following him was Warren Varner, who won his matchup against Joseph Tharakan in two sets, 7-6, 6-0.

After Mirella Fregoso lost a decisive three-set match, Orestimba bounced back thanks to Ashylnn Bell winning her matchup in two sets, 6-3, 1-6.

Similarly, the Warriors lost their first boys doubles match, but the duo of Jose Rodriguez and Nabeel Ali won its matchup against Jordan Sandoval and Joshua Sanchez through two sets, 6-2, 6-2.

With two matches remaining in the regular season, Osborn alluded this upcoming stretch as “must wins” for the team if they want to qualify for the postseason.

“The biggest thing we can hope for is to tie with Ripon [High] at that point,” he said. “As long as we can win our next couple of matches and win by a decent margin, we still have a chance.”

The Warriors will travel to River Island High School (Lathrop) on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Both teams previously played one another on March 27 where Orestimba won 6-3.
