An 11-year-old Newman boy is recovering from injuries he sustained when he was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter, the Newman Police Department reported.
Around 3:12 p.m. on Feb. 18, the boy was on the electric scooter in the 1000 block of Q Street, going southbound. According to the police report, the boy entered the intersection of Yolo Street and was struck by a sports utility vehicle that had been traveling eastbound on Yolo.
The boy sustained some injuries. He was not wearing a helmet and as a precaution was air-lifted to a children’s hospital out of the area.
“He is expected to recover,” said Newman Police Sgt. Ashley Williams.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured, remained on scene, and was fully cooperative throughout the investigation, Williams said.
