The Orestimba High Warrior girl basketball team powered their way through a SAL rival Gustine on Thursday for a pounding, 60-15, victory. The win gives the Warriors a 12-8 overall record, and a perfect 6-0 league record and No. 1 ranking in the SAL. The Reds are eager for a rematch.
“We’re starting to come together,” noted head coach Scott Felber. “We got things we’ve got to get better on as always. We’ll work on it in the next game and hopefully try to get everything ready before playoffs.”
Leading the team in scoring for the Warriors was Jenessa Gonzalez (5), with an outstanding 17-point flurry, followed by Olivia Gray (54)for 13-points total. Defenmsively, the Warriors had an obvious clamp on the Reds. Ashlynn Bell (22) led the team in total steals, with 9 for the night.
“It’s going to be the way we like to play, and we’re going to hopefully pick up where we left off today,” said the Warriors’ coach.
Felber’s confidence in the team’s defensive capabilities speaks to a strategic approach that has contributed to their success on the court.
Looking ahead to a potential rematch, Reds head coach Robert Palomino expressed optimism and anticipation.
“I mean, I think the rematch is going to speak a lot. I think from what I saw, we have a chance, we will have a full squad by then,” Palomino commented.
Most of the Reds’ starters are in the midst of soccer season, leaving Palomino with a thin starting lineup. The prospect of a rematch against the SAL rival holds, with Palomino hinting at a competitive edge and the potential for a different outcome with a complete roster.
As the Warriors’ girls basketball team continues to assert their dominance in the SAL, the anticipation of a rematch adds an extra layer of excitement to an already compelling season. Coaches Felber and Palomino ready for a future rematch.
