Newman Police Department

The Newman Police Department received 67 calls for service and reported 63 officer-initiated calls for a total of 130 incidents from April 17 to April 23.

The department opened 16 cases and five arrests. The department issued two traffic citations, two criminal citations, two parking citations and towed four vehicles.

Two buses found with damage in reported vandalism case

Police responded April 21 to the 1500 block of M Street after two First Student transportation vehicles were found with damage to their roofs, including what appeared to be bullet and pellet impacts.

Officers reported one bus had 17 circular indentations along the driver’s side roof panel that did not penetrate the metal, damage consistent with BB pellets. A second bus had a single hole in the roof believed to have been caused by a stray bullet. The estimated damage to one of the vehicles was $2,000.

The case has been closed.

Arrests

Rigoberto Cornejo, 47, of Newman, was arrested on April 17 for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Yesenia Islas, 40, of Newman, was arrested on April 18 for indecent exposure and public nuisance.

Mohamed Rashed, 56, of Newman, was arrested on April 19 for disorderly conduct involving alcohol.

Hector Vargas, 44, of Gustine, was arrested on April 19 for driving with a license suspended for DUI.

Gabriel Mesa, 51, of Newman, was arrested on April 20 on a Stanislaus County misdemeanor warrant.

Gustine police respond to vandalism, theft and disturbance calls

Gustine police handled a series of calls between April 16 and April 23, including vandalism, theft and suspicious‑person reports, according to department activity logs.

Officers responded April 20 to the 40 block of Manor Avenue for a report of a vehicle burglary involving stolen motor‑vehicle parts or accessories. The case was classified as a misdemeanor.

Early on April 19, police were called to the 1400 block of Meredith Avenue at Green Acres Mobile Park for a suspicious‑person report. The call was cleared a short time later.

On April 17, officers took a misdemeanor contempt‑of‑court report at Our Lady of Miracles on the 300 block of Linden Avenue. That same day, police responded to an assault call on the 1500 block of Verde Drive. The incident was cleared shortly after officers arrived.

Two vandalism cases were also reported during the week. Police took a report April 22 on the 900 block of Lucerne Avenue, and another vandalism incident was logged April 18 at the North Avenue Apartment Complex on the 100 block of North Avenue.
