A new era was underway for Orestimba High volleyball first-year head coach Tianah Vitorino, whose team went 2-2 in a tournament last Saturday to open the 2026 season.

In Saturday’s competitions, the Warriors won its matchup against Waterford and Ceres High Schools in two sets, but were swept by Livermore and Beyer High Schools.

Mirynn Oliveria and Persia Wright combined for 32 kills through four games, while Leah Ferrand recorded 35 assists total in the tournament.

With Saturday being a first look at what to expect from the Warriors this season, Vitorino emphasized the importance of remaining cohesive throughout a match, even if it’s not going the way the team intended.

“Even after difficult matches, they stayed together, kept competing, and finished the tournament with a strong win over Ceres,” she said. “We still have areas to improve, but I was happy with the way they continued to work hard.”

After falling to Livermore in its first match, the Warriors bounced back with a 2-0 sweep against Waterford High. Orestimba won the first set 25-19 and 25-20 in the second.

Wright led the team with five kills, three aces and a block. Ferrand recorded six assists in the match.

Following the win, Orestimba were swept by Beyer High in two sets (21-15, 17-25). However, the team ended the tournament on a high note with a two-set win (25-20, 26-24) against Ceres.

The Warriors recorded 19 kills in the match, with Victoria Silva, Oliveira and Wright combining for 16 kills. Ferrand had 16 assists in the match.

As the team continues its season, Vitorino hopes to continue building on the team’s teamwork through communication and consistent energy.

“We have a young group of players, but as a team, we plan to keep working hard and strengthening our teamwork during every practice and game,” Vitorino said.
