GUSTINE - Two of the three remaining Southern Athletic League games for the Gustine High School football team will be at home.
One of those games is this Friday. That is when Gustine (1-3 in the SAL, 1-6 overall) welcomes the LeGrand High squad (2-2 in the SAL, 3-4). The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
Gustine is coming off a 37-20 loss to Waterford on Friday, also an SAL game. LeGrand has lost its last two league games, including Friday’s 35-14 at Stone Ridge Christian High and 49-28 at home against league-leader Denair on Oct. 9.
“LeGrand is very well-coached and plays very hard,” said Gustine head coach Collin Lane of the Bulldogs. “We are going to have to play very well in order to compete with them.”
Stats and SAL standings
Reds quarterback Jesse Aguilera, in four games this season, has 37 carries for 302 yards and two touchdowns.
Entering the last three weeks of the regular season, Denair sits alone in first place at 4-0 in the SAL and 6-1 overall. Mariposa County and Stone Ridge Christian, out of Merced, are both 3-1 in league and 5-2 overall.
Modesto Christian is tied with LeGrand with the same league record. Gustine and Waterford are 1-3 while Delhi is still in search of its first win of the season, in league and overall.
Upcoming games
Another perk for Gustine in its remaining regular season games is it doesn’t have to leave Merced County.
The Reds play at Stone Ridge Christian on Oct. 30. Then closes out the regular season hosting Delhi on Nov. 6.
