GUSTINE — With its postseason hopes on the line, Gustine delivered a crucial three-set sweep of Delhi on Thursday night, earning a 25-12, 25-21, 25-17 victory on its home court.

Entering the match at 6-6 and needing a win to remain in playoff contention, the Reds responded with a strong performance from start to finish.

Delhi scored the opening point of the night, but Gustine quickly took control behind a dominant scoring run led by Kimberly Ramirez. The Reds built an early advantage and never looked back in the opening set. Admaris Hernandez contributed a key kill during the surge, helping Gustine extend its lead to 13-5.

Hernandez continued to lead the attack late in the set with three consecutive kills, while Martha Torres added a block at the net as Gustine closed out the set. A Delhi net violation ended the opener, giving the Reds a 25-12 win.

The second set proved to be the most competitive of the night.

Tied 5-5 early, Gustine found separation through strong net play from Hernandez and Torres. Delhi responded after a timeout, using a 5-0 run to erase an 18-13 deficit and tie the score at 18-18.

The teams traded points through a 20-20 deadlock before Gustine tightened its defense and executed down the stretch. The Reds pulled away late to secure a 25-21 victory and take a two-set lead.

Delhi again scored first in the third set, but Gustine quickly answered. Back-to-back service aces from Ramirez helped the Reds gain momentum, while Hernandez and Sofia Soto powered the offense as Gustine built leads of 6-2, 11-7 and 15-10.

Torres added another key block as Gustine extended its advantage with a late run. Ramirez scored the match's final point, sealing a 25-17 win and completing the sweep.

With the victory, Gustine kept its playoff hopes alive heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

"This win keeps our playoff hopes alive as the regular season reaches its final stretch," coach Mona Laupua said.
