GUSTINE — Fishing poles, tackle boxes and camping chairs may soon help create some big memories for local kids as Gustine gets ready for its annual Kids Fishing Day on Sept. 26. City officials are asking the community to pitch in by donating fishing gear or making monetary contributions to help ensure children have what they need to enjoy a day outdoors.

The event is designed to give kids a chance to cast a line, learn new skills and spend time outside with family, friends and neighbors. City staff say the day is part of Gustine’s ongoing effort to offer positive recreation opportunities for local youth and introduce them to activities they might not otherwise experience.

Organizers are hoping donations come in early so gear can be prepared ahead of the event. Residents who have extra poles, tackle boxes, camping chairs or other supplies are encouraged to drop them off at City Hall, located at 352 Fifth Street. Monetary contributions are also welcome. With help from the community, Kids Fishing Day is expected to bring together outdoor fun, learning and hometown support in a way that gives children a chance to make memories long after the fishing lines are packed away.
