Families across the Westside will have two chances to celebrate Halloween this year as Newman and Gustine host their annual Trunk-or-Treat events on consecutive nights.
Newman will kick off the festivities Friday, Oct. 30, with its annual Trunk-or-Treat celebration from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The decorated trunks will be taking over the 1300 block of Main Street in Newman. The event traditionally brings together local businesses, organizations and families for an evening of costumes, decorated vehicles and candy-filled fun.
Children are encouraged to arrive dressed as their favorite characters and make their way through rows of creatively decorated trunks. In past years, participants have transformed vehicles into elaborate Halloween displays, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The City of Newman Recreation Department, which is organizing the event, is still looking for more organizations, businesses and individuals that would like to decorate their trunks and hand out candy for the event. Those interested can call (209) 678-6271.
The celebration continues Saturday, Oct. 31, when Gustine's annual Trunk-or-Treat takes over Main Street from 6 to 8 p.m.
Hosted by the Gustine Recreation Department, this year's event will feature the theme "It's the Great Pumpkin, Gustine!" Organizers are inviting local businesses, community groups and residents to decorate their vehicles and hand out treats to participating children.
As always, costumes and decorated trunks are expected to be among the highlights of the evening, giving participants an opportunity to showcase their creativity and Halloween spirit.
The City of Gustine Recreation Department is still accepting volunteers for the event. Those interested can register at www.cityofgustine.com under recreation registration for special events.
Beyond the candy and costumes, both events offer families a chance to gather with neighbors and create lasting memories in their communities.
With celebrations scheduled on back-to-back nights, local families can take part in both events and enjoy two evenings of Halloween fun. Organizers encourage participants to bring candy buckets, wear comfortable shoes and watch for any additional event announcements as Halloween approaches.
