LOS BANOS — A woman was shot and killed early Sunday after police responded to a 911 call at a home in the 2000 block of Edward Street, authorities said.

Officers arrived at 12:11 a.m. and found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. They attempted lifesaving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Police contacted an adult male at the residence, identified as Joseph Swanson, 37, and took him into custody on suspicion of homicide following their investigation.

Detectives said the firearm used in the shooting was recovered at the home. The case does not appear to be gang‑related and is being investigated as a domestic‑violence incident. The victim’s name will be released later by the Merced County Coroner’s Office once next of kin have been notified.
