NEWMAN POLICE
The Newman Police Department handled 159 incidents during the week of Aug. 21–27, according to the agency’s weekly activity report. Officers responded to 83 calls for service and initiated 76 additional contacts.
Police recorded five Part I crimes — two assaults, one robbery, one burglary and one larceny — and made four arrests during the week. The department also logged one DUI arrest. No murders, vehicle thefts, rapes or arsons were reported.
Officers issued 16 traffic citations and one criminal citation. No municipal or animal violations were recorded, and no parking citations were issued. No vehicles were towed.
The week generated 18 total cases.
Arrests
Rogelio Macias, 49, of Turlock was arrested on Aug. 25 for being an unlicensed driver (misdemeanor).
Matthew Cabello, 36, of Newman was arrested on Aug. 27 for DUI (misdemeanor) and DUI with priors (felony).
A 42-year-old Newman man was arrested on Aug. 27 for battery on spouse (misdemeanor) and warrant arrest (misdemeanor).
Ilse Gonzalez, 40, of Gustine was arrested on Aug. 27 for driving on a suspended license for DUI (misdemeanor).
GUSTINE POLICE
The Gustine Police Department responded to several high-level offenses, including severe crimes against children and local property damage, during the week of Aug. 21-27, 2026.
Authorities have launched an investigation into a felony sex offense reported at Gustine High School. According to police logs, an incident involving lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old occurred at the school’s location in the 500 block of North Avenue on Aug. 24, at approximately 11:55 a.m. The crime is officially classified as a forcible felony sex offense.
Earlier in the week, officers responded to a violent domestic incident on the 700 block of Ash Avenue. On Aug. 21, at 12:57 p.m., a misdemeanor assault incident involving child abuse with the possibility of great bodily injury or death and intimidation was recorded at 790 Ash Avenue.
Local businesses and public parks also required police intervention this week. On Aug. 23, at 2:08 a.m., officers were dispatched to Moshiach Tactical in the 400 block of 5th Street following reports of a peace disturbance. Officers remained on the scene for nearly an hour before taking an official report and closing the call at 3:01 AM.
Park property was targeted by vandals overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday. Police logs indicate that property was defaced at Harry P. Schmidt Park, located in the 700 block of Linden Avenue, at 10 p.m. on Aug. 25. A follow-up vandalism call was made from the park the following morning, Aug. 26, at 6:40 a.m., which resulted in a brief two-minute police check.
Later that Wednesday, at 1:58 p.m., officers responded to another property damage complaint at the Meredith Manor Apartments in the 300 block of Meredith Avenue. Officers spent two hours at the complex conducting an investigation and took a formal vandalism report before clearing the scene at 4:03 p.m.
In addition to property crimes, proactive policing resolved a potential safety concern early Wednesday morning. At 1:25 a.m. on Aug. 26, officers investigated a suspicious vehicle parked near the intersection of Linden Avenue and Meredith Avenue. After a 12-minute assessment, officers determined the vehicle and its occupants were clear, and the call was logged as “checks ok.”
Investigations into the felony school incident and the child abuse case remain ongoing.
Arrests
Kathryn Elizabeth Ramsour, 31, was arrested in the 700 block of Ash Avenue on Aug. 21 for child abuse with the possibility of great bodily harm.
Victor David Contreras, 32, was arrested in the 700 block of Ash Avenue on Aug. 21 for child abuse with the possibility of great bodily harm and aggravated corporal injury on a child.
