Driver arrested after July 4 DUI crash in Newman
NEWMAN — A driver was arrested Thursday morning after police say he crashed into a parked vehicle while driving with an extremely high blood‑alcohol level.
Officers Freeman and Arroyo were dispatched around 11:21 a.m. to the 2100 block of Canyon View Drive for a report of a vehicle that had struck a parked car. Police said the driver showed signs of impairment and agreed to provide a breath sample, which measured a .49 blood‑alcohol concentration — more than six times the legal limit.
No injuries were reported in the collision. The driver was taken to a local hospital for standard medical clearance required after traffic crashes and will be booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on DUI‑related charges.
Major crimes investigation near Crows Landing Road remains under review
Several days after a large law‑enforcement response near Crows Landing Road and Carpenter Road, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office has released no new details about the incident that prompted a major crimes investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office announced July 3 that detectives with its Major Crimes Unit were handling a case tied to an incident that occurred the evening of July 2. A helicopter was seen circling the area that morning, and a coroner’s van was observed at the scene, but officials have not clarified what investigators were responding to.
Deputies warned motorists at the time to expect delays and encouraged drivers to avoid the area. As of this week, the department has not provided any additional information about the nature of the investigation or whether any arrests have been made.
