Gustine releases updated list of street and intersection projects for 2026–27
city of gustine

The City of Gustine has released its project list for the 2026–27 fiscal year, outlining a mix of recently completed work and upcoming street improvements aimed at extending roadway life and improving traffic flow throughout the community.

One of the largest efforts on the schedule is the construction of a downtown roundabout at 5th Street and 4th Avenue. The project, which includes reconfigured curb returns and storm drainage upgrades, is planned in two phases: February to June 2026 and February to June 2027. City officials estimate the roundabout will have a useful life of 10 to 20 years and say the work is intended to ease congestion in the city center.

A major intersection upgrade at Highways 33 and 140 was completed in July 2025 after nearly three years of construction. That project, which began in August 2022, focused on improving safety and traffic movement at one of the area’s busiest junctions. Its useful life is projected at 20 to 25 years.

Several pavement rehabilitation projects have also been completed within the past year. South Avenue, from Alley to Grove near abandoned well No. 1, underwent rehabilitation between April and November 2024. Railroad Avenue, from Meredith to South Avenue, was finished during the same period.

Additional pavement work is scheduled to begin later this year. Lucerne Avenue, from Jensen to Linden, is slated for rehabilitation from May to December 2026. Elm Avenue, from Meredith to Wallis, is on the same timeline, with both streets expected to receive full pavement upgrades. Portions of Carnation Road underwent pavement rehabilitation last year.

Public works staff said the staggered timelines reflect both funding cycles and the need to coordinate construction to minimize disruptions. Useful life estimates help determine when future rehabilitation will be needed, allowing the city to plan ahead for long‑term capital expenses.

The full project list will be reviewed as part of the city’s 2026–27 budget process.
