NEWMAN, Calif. – In a Trans-Valley League home game on Friday, the Orestimba High baseball team got its bats going.
But so did the Escalon High squad. The visiting Cougars banged out 15 hits, which led to posting a 14-0 win over Orestimba (0-12 in the TVL, 3-23 overall).
Escalon (7-3 in the TVL, 13-9) held a 5-0 lead over the Warriors entering the top of the seventh inning. That is when the Cougars scored nine times for the final score.
Orestimba had five hits in the contest. Colby Cabral, along with Warrior teammates Giovanni Gudino, Payton Marcotte, Ray Montes and Richie Rivas, had a hit each.
Escalon 11, Orestimba 1
The two teams had their first meeting of the home-and-home series in Escalon on April 23. The game was called after five innings because of the mercy rule.
For a brief time, Orestimba held a 1-0 led in the top of the first inning.
Then the Cougars went to work in getting runs touching home plate in the bottom of the first, scoring five times for a 5-1 lead.
Escalon added another run in the bottom of first. Then it added four more in the third for a 10-1 lead. The Cougars scored the final run in the fifth frame.
The Cougars had nine hits and were aided by six Orestimba errors.
Donovan Torres had the Warriors’ only hit in the game, and Montes produced an RBI.
