NEWMAN – Returning to Trans-Valley League action last week after competing in the Tracy Classic the week prior, the Orestimba High softball team was on the road.
The Warriors, however, had tough games during that time. Here is the breakdown of those contests.
Hughson 12, Orestimba 2
Thursday’s game on the Huskies’ field went only five innings because of the mercy rule.
Hughson held a 4-0 lead on Orestimba (3-5 in the TVL, 14-9 overall) entering the bottom of the fourth inning. That is when the Huskies erupted for eight runs for a 12-0 lead.
The Warriors plated two runs in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to keep the game going.
Orestimba finished with six hits in the game. Karina Gonzalez, along with Warrior teammates Rae Oliveros, Natalie Corella, Salece Machado, Hailey Starr and Ellery Gustafson, each had a hit. Gonzalez and Corella each smacked a double.
Hughson had 13 hits in the contest. Peyton Moring had three of those hits, while three Husky teammates in Kylie Tangney, Emma Carne and Madison Collins each had two.
Orestimba was guilty of committing six errors in this league contest.
Ripon 2, Orestimba 1
This game, on the Indians’ field on April 14, went nine innings.
Ripon scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Orestimba scored its only run in the top of the second inning. The Indians tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth frame.
The Warriors finished with seven hits in the contest. Starr had a strong game at the plate, producing three hits that included a double. Oliveros went 2-for-4.
The Indians had six hits. Angelina Martinez had three of the team’s hits.
Upcoming games
On Tuesday, Orestimba plays at Ripon Christian High, weather permitting. Weather forecasters are calling for rain to hit the region that was scheduled to hit on Monday and last through Wednesday.
This Thursday, the Warriors are back on their own field, hosting Escalon at 4 p.m.
