GUSTINE - In its second Southern Athletic League match of the season on Thursday, the Gustine High School volleyball team was looking for a challenging match against Mariposa High’s squad.
But the visiting Grizzlies returned to the foothills with a 3-0 win over the Reds; the final scores were 25-8, 25-13, 25-14. Statistics from this match were not available at press time.
The loss puts Gustine at 0-2 in league action and 2-7 overall.
There are 14 players on this year’s team, 12 of whom are seniors. Those players are Sokaiya Kim, Martha Torres Del Toro, Adamris Sierra Hernandez, Chacon Syrena, Alana Johnson, Irene Ramirez, Kimberly Ramirez, Madeline Alves, Kaylee Giles, Sofia Soto, Edith Teodoro and Laura Gutierrez.

The SAL opener inside the Bulldogs’ gym on Sept. 8 saw each match being close; the final scores were LeGrand 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.
Upcoming matches
The Reds returned to league play on Tuesday, as they hosted Waterford High’s squad.
This Thursday, Gustine will host Denair in an SAL match scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Reds continue league play at Delhi High. That match also has a 6 p.m. start.
