Jan. 27, 1929 - Jan. 20, 2025
Jack Short obit

Jack Pierce Short, age 95, of Napa, California peacefully reunited with the love of his life, CeCe Short (Rose) in Heaven on January 20, 2025.

Jack was born January 27, 1929 in Kelso, Washington, to Harvey and Florence Short, passing away just a week before his 96th birthday. He will be terribly missed, but we find solace that he is finally resting in peace.

At the age of 16, Jack became a logger in Washington and a few short years later, enlisted in the United States Navy proudly serving the United States of America in the Korean War. He then joined Operating Engineers Local Union #3 as a Heavy Equipment Operator and later retired as Regional Safety Director. The Union was extended family for him, and he remained active as a retiree for several years.

Jack loved racing horses, hunting and fishing with CeCe, spending time with friends and family and travelling. He was a guy’s guy and a lady’s man, with a strong handshake and a pearly white smile. In his last year, he enjoyed watching movies with his daughter Robin and son-in law, John after trips to Black Bear Diner and Applebee’s. He loved the 49er’s and to sport his Steve Young signed jersey during games. Jack loved to watch old black and white westerns. He also loved giving treats to Whalan, the newest fur member of the family and his latest best buddy.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Robin Short-Van Honk; son-in law, John Van Honk of Napa; his sister-in-law, Arene M. Avila (Jerry) of Turlock; sister-in law, Marie Rose-Watkins (Steve) of Ripon; niece, Jennifer R. Avila of Modesto; his nephew, Jake Avila of Turlock; grandson, Miles Short of Arkansas, and step-grandson, Rhys Van Honk of Napa.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman.

Services conducted by Hillview Funeral Chapel, Newman.
