Orestimba High baseball team continued their struggles as the team lost its seventh-straight game following a 11-1 loss to Hilmar High to close out its slate in Hilmar Easter Tournament on Thursday.

The Warriors fell to 8-11 overall and 2-4 in Trans-Valley League play. The Yellowjackets improved 8-8 overall and 2-4 against TVL teams following the bounce-back win. Hilmar have won seven straight against Orestimba, dating back to Feb. 2024.

After finishing winless in all of its three games in the tournament, Warriors head coach Louie Dominguez said the team “didn’t play well” after he felt they allowed multiple walks.

Five different Yellowjackets players each produced an RBI, with Hilmar junior Caleb Contreras leading with three RBIs and a run. Following him was junior Drake DeCosta with two RBIs and a run.

In the top of the first inning, junior first baseman Ray Montes brought in a run for Orestimba’s lone run of the afternoon. Hilmar responded back with two runs of their own later in the inning to lead 2-1.

From that point, the Warriors couldn’t stop the Yellowjackets’ batters as Hilmar scored nine more runs, including a six-run inning, to win 11-1.

With six games remaining in the season, Dominguez said he hopes the team continues to “keep playing.”

“I think we’re getting a bit too worried about winning games,” he said. “We just have to work on that. Plain clean baseball.”

Orestimba will travel to Ripon High (11-9) (3-3 TVL) for its next series on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Ripon is currently in fourth place in the league standings, while being half-game behind Hughson High for third place.
