After losing its first two matches, Orestimba High water polo recorded the program’s inaugural win on the road against Lathrop High last Thursday, 16-6.

Orestimba High senior Myles Costa was the match’s leading scorer with five goals, while five other Warriors players each contributed a goal.

The Warriors seemed to have a sense of urgency from the opening sprint when it came scoring. 48 hours prior to Thursday’s match, Orestimba lost its inaugural home match against Ceres High, 22-12. The second quarter was disastrous for them as they’re outscored 8-3.

In just the opening period on Thursday, the Warriors scored more than they did in the first half against the Bulldogs and held a 6-3 going into the second. Orestimba added three more goals for a four-point lead.

Throughout the match, Warriors players kept on pressuring and doubling the Spartans players, resulting in multiple steals and shot clock violations. It also led to Lathrop only having two scorers at the end of the match.

The defense was more evident in the third quarter where Orestimba shut out the host, 4-0, for a 13-5 going in the fourth. The Warriors went on to win the match to improve to 1-2 overall.

Orestimba will travel to Ceres for a match against Central Valley High on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
