While the season didn’t turn out how the team anticipated, Orestimba High sophomore shortstop Axel Diaz and junior first baseman Ray Montes were recently named to the Trans-Valley League.
Diaz earned a nod on the all-league first team. The sophomore finished with 21 runs and eight RBIs while batting .300. Through pitching in 36 innings, he recorded a 7.78 ERA and 36 strikeouts, but allowed 59 runs and a homerun.
Montes was recognized as an honorable mention. He batted .333 for 18 runs and 13 RBIs. Through 25.1 innings on the mound, the junior recorded 31 strikeouts with a 8.29 ERA. However, he allowed 36 runs.
The Warriors’ 2026 campaign was a tale of two ends. After sweeping Sonora High to win its first TVL series, the team was 8-4 overall. However, it went downhill from there as Orestimba went on to lose 13-straight games to finish 8-17 and 2-10 in league play.
With five senior players set to graduate on Friday, the Warriors look into leaning with an experienced roster going into next season. This, in turn, could lead to a better outcome next year, head coach Louie Dominguez said.
“If they all come back, they all work hard during the offseason and get stronger and buy into the program, then I think we’ll have a chance to be a little bit more competitive next year,” Dominguez said.
