The public safety agencies in Newman and Gustine are both gearing up to host National Night Out events in August.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anticrime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

The Newman police and fire departments will be hosting their National Night Out from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 6 at Sherman Park at 330 Cinnamon Teal Way.

The activities will include Dunk A Chief in a dunk tank, police versus fire games, yard games, K9 Gizmo, and vendor and resource booths. The police versus fire games will be dodgeball at 6:30 p.m. and tug-of-war at 7:30 p.m.

Other organizations and businesses that will have booths at National Night Out include the Newman Crows Landing Unified School District, Bravo’s Break, Frida’s and more.

There also will be opportunities to meet local first responders from the Newman Police Department, the Newman Fire Department and Westside Ambulance. Hot dogs and popcorn will be available at the event.

The Newman Police Department K9 Association will be on hand and will have merchandise available to support their mission.

The National Night Out for Gustine will be a combination event that blends National Night Out and Back to School, hosted by the City of Gustine. It will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Henry Miller Park at 3rd and 6th avenues.

The activities will include kid’s zone, school supply giveaways, food trucks, police and fire displays, vehicle tours, drawings, a movie and more.

The movie will be showing at the Gustine Aquatics Center and will be “Leo.”
