Following the program’s most prominent season in recent memory, four individuals from the Orestimba High Coed tennis team recently notched up Trans-Valley League honors.

Mirella Fregoso and Ashlyn Bell were named to the all-female league team. Fregoso also earned the league’s Most Valuable Player award after finishing with a regular-season best of 12-2 in girls singles.

Kevin Rodriguez earned a nod in the boys all-league team.

Lastly, Warriors head coach Nolan Osborn earned the league’s Coach of the Year. While the honors came as expected given how the season went, the recognition was a complete surprise to Osborn.

“I was shocked because there’s a lot of good coaches in the league,” he said. “I have a lot of respect and praise for Hughson [High head coach Danny Rytting] every year … and [he] does an excellent job.”

The end of season accolades not only a testament to the program, but recognized it for reaching unprecedented heights. After barely missing the postseason last year, Orestimba clinched a spot in the Sac-Joaquin Section Coed Tennis Division I playoffs with wins in the first two rounds, including against top-seeded West Campus High of Sacramento.

It didn’t stop there for the Warriors as Sofiah Ramirez and Fregoso went on to win the TVL’s Girls Doubles Tournament on May 2. With the win, the duo qualified for the girls double bracket in the Sac-Joaquin Section Coed Tennis Tournament, where they later won their matchups and was crowned as the best duo in the section.

“I know they can do great things out there, just thankful for each and every one of my team members,” Osborn said.
